Founding ladies, 1981

The club was first proposed in 1954, and an eight rink grass green with lights was finished in January 1956. Our first pennant season followed that summer. The ladies section started in 1981, and the two sections joined as one club in 2011.

Today the greens are synthetic and open all year, the club sits inside the Hampton RSL Sub-Branch, and everything is run by volunteers. For our 70th we all turned out in whites, just like the early days.

Good to know

Do I need to be an RSL member?

Yes. Every bowls member is also a member of the Hampton RSL Sub-Branch, and you can join or renew that online at hamptonrsl.com.au.

What is the difference between full and social membership?

Full members vote, play pennant and enter the club championships and Bowls Victoria events. Social members use the club and greens at no extra charge but do not play in competitions, and pay a quarter of the full fee. The committee sets the fee each September, so ask the secretary for this season's figure.

When can I use the greens?

Our synthetic greens are open all year. Members book a rink through the club's online Rink Booker, subject to pennant and green availability.

Who runs the club?

Volunteers, every one of them. President Stephen Youl, Secretary Kerrie Stielow and Treasurer Ian Currie lead a small committee of members.
